No Surprises Act: Billing Disclosures

Right to Receive a Good Faith Estimate of Expected Charges Under the No Surprises Act

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who do not have health insurance, or who choose not to use their health care coverage, an estimate of their bill for health care items and services before those items or services are provided.

Specialty Eye Institute and Blake Woods Surgery Center Give the Gift of Sight to 8 Local Residents

Jackson, Michigan (June, 2021) – Specialty Eye Institute and Blake Woods Surgery Center Medical Park recently waived their fees and secured donated lenses in order to give the gift of sight to 8 local residents. The 8 patients all suffered from cataracts, which significantly impaired their vision.

Welcome Dr. Alon Kahana and Sara Turner, PA-C

Blake Woods Surgery Center is pleased to announce that renowned oculofacial plastic surgeon Dr. Alon Kahana, along with his physician assistant, Sara Turner, PA-C, will be joining our staff to provide comprehensive oculoplastic surgical care to patients in the greater Jackson area.

Until recently, Dr. Kahanawas a tenured professor at the Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan, and is currently Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, William Beaumont School of Medicine. In 2020, Dr. Kahana and Ms. Turner left the University of Michigan together to join the world-famous team at Consultants in Ophthalmic and Facial Plastic Surgery, P.C., of Southfield, Michigan.

Michigan Surgeon First to use iStent Technology

Eye surgeon Kevin Lavery, MD, of Specialty Eye Institute, announced that he is now providing the iStent® Trabecular Micro-Bypass Stent as a treatment option to reduce eye pressure for patients with both cataracts and glaucoma. Dr. Lavery is the first surgeon in Michigan to perform surgery using the iStent® technology. This technology will be a great benefit to patients in the Jackson, Battle Creek, and Kalamazoo SEI offices.
